Trail Reports

Snowmachine 0072007-2008 Trail Reports

Trails are closed for 2008!

This report will be updated every Thursday through the season. We will add reports as weather and trail conditions change.

PLEASE respect the landowners so they will continue to generously allow our club to use their property.

Parking Information:
Our club has permission to park in two different areas:

  • Route 113 North Fryeburg across from Pete's Garage
  • Route 302 Fryeburg across from Osgood Brothers Fryeburg

We thank both Pete’s Garage and Osgood Brothers for their generosity, both of whom are Business Members. Please DO NOT park at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds. We no longer have permission to park there because sledders could not stay on the marked trails.

March 27, 2008: We have officially closed our entire trail system due to unsafe conditions. Please respect our closure and, most importantly, our generous landowners. Riding during this time of year can do great damage to fields and lawns as well as to your own sled. See you all in 2008-2009!

March 20, 2008: We had plans of grooming the trails on March 14-15 but the temperatures never got cold enough. We have been experiencing typical March weather with temps in the 30’s - 40’s. We are done grooming for the season. If you still go out, please be very careful as the ponds and rivers are starting to open up. There are a lot of water holes in the low spots on the trails and the bridges are losing their snow. Hope to see you next year.

February 28, 2008: In spite of all the snow, our groomers can not get out until Thursday night. Our area got a new coating of 12 inches of new heavy snow. Watch out for any broken branches. Although it has been windy, some trees haven's shaken off their new cover. Barring any unforeseen problems, the groomer operators plan to be out Friday and Saturday nights too. Looks like we'll be doing our best to keep you riding into March for sure.

February 22, 2008: We have snow; hard, mealy snow. All trails have been groomed, some Wednesday and Thursday nights. The drag on our north end broke again Wednesday night so after repairs got back out Thursday night. Dave dragged the east end of town Wednesday and Thursday nights. Eddie was out in and around the village too. There is snow out there but with several mornings of below zero weather, it is hard to handle. The snow banks are extremely hard and believe it or not, the water holes are trying to open back up in places. The weather man is saying only 1-4 inches of snow for us on Friday. It may help and the groomers will be out again this weekend.

February 7, 2008: We have received well over 12” of snow and precipitation since last week. Today was fluffly powder snow but yesterday and last Saturday was heavy sleet and ice. We will be grooming on Thursday night and Saturday night if weather permits. We are expecting another storm Saturday into Sunday but the local weatherman have not settled on an forecast yet. Remember that we are hosting a rally on Sunday at Pete's Garage on Route 113 starting at 9 AM.

January 31, 2008: We’ve been grooming. Everything in North Fryeburg was groomed Tuesday night before the rain. Dave was out with the Tucker today (Thursday) and the snow is very hard. There is very little of it in the woods. If we get any kind of snow accumulation on Friday, the groomers will be out again Saturday night.

January 24, 2008: We hope everyone that could enjoyed their long holiday weekend. Jockey Cap had over 500 sleds stop for gas on Saturday! Dave and Herbie spent eight hours grooming Saturday night covering our trails from Sweden to the east end of our trail system. Larry groomed the fields Saturday morning and Jarrett covered them and IT80 North that night. Eddie was out on the wider trails around town and Russell had the Alpine in the village and up to the Information Booth to meet the NH Tucker. And they started all over again Wednesday night. We haven't had any significant new snow, the weather has stayed cold but no snow in sight. We will be back out Saturday night doing the best we can to give everyone good riding. Hope you can make it to our rally on the 10th.

Walkers Mud HoleJanuary 20, 2008: We have been out grooming trails. Bridgton and Denmark got 16 inches of snow on Monday; but we got about 8 inches; On Friday we had about 6 inches but it did turn to sleet near the end. Buzzell's Bog is still closed (by Canal Bridge to Hemlock Bridge Rd). since ther is too much water in there. ITS 80 north to Evan's Notch still has gulleys of water, so please take care there. Some pallets have been placed in the really bad spot in Sweden, so riders still need to use caution on the powerline. The fields were groomed Wednesday night, trying to get them set up for the weekend in the cold. There is no school for the kids on Monday so the trails will be busy.

January 10, 2008: Due to warm weather, rain and rising river waters, trails are in poor to fair condition. We will not be able to groom until we get more snow and cold temperatures.

January 4th, 2008: Groomers have been out since the first of the year, after the recent storms. Cold conditions have improved the trails but there is still soft ground under the snow in the woods. ITS 80 has been reopened and groomed except for the large mud hole in Sweden by the powerline. Use caution, especially with the expected warmer weekend temperatures. Be very careful around bodies of water as we have had great temperature swings over the last two weeks. It is still too early to trust the ice!

December 30th, 2007: The snow has been great like most of Maine. But with 40 degree days, ITS 80 is in bad shape. Everything west of Bridgton is dangerous and this new snow will just cover up the trouble spots. We have running water in the woods' trails and in Sweden on the powerline, we have MUD. Lots of it!

After discussing it with some of the folks up there in Augusta, President Dave Richardson and Trailmaster Eddie Davidson, have closed ITS 80 for now. We need some very cold weather to freeze the ground and therefore the base of that trail. We are asking riders to please stay off that trail.

December 26, 2007: Our area has received over four feet of snow since the beginning of December! The recent warm weather and rain has thinned out the snow pack in areas but riding conditions are pretty good for now. We are hoping for colder weather and more snow. Please be careful riding and stay to the right.

December 9, 2007: We received about 12” this past week. It was a very light powdery snow and the temps have stayed below freezing until Saturday. The trails are not ready for riding yet. We have more snow forecast for the next week but no large storms.

November 22, 2007: We received about 2” of snow on Tuesday. Not enough to plow and it was light enough not to have to shovel. Keep your fingers crossed for more snow soon.
